Cookies are small pieces of information, in the form of plain text that are stored on our computer when we visit various Internet pages. The information stored in cookies depends on each page. The text of the cookies may include our user ID, session ID, when we last visited a particular page, our personal preferences on the page, etc.
Storing our personal preferences is the most useful application of cookies. Without cookies, our personal preferences would be impossible to save, and every time we logged in to websites, it would be as if we were logging in for the first time.
Each page can store multiple cookies on our computer and the more we use our browser we can have hundreds to thousands of cookies stored at any one time.
Cookies do not pose a risk to the computer of the user / visitor of the website. If one does not want to collect information through cookies, one can configure one’s browser on the Internet to delete existing cookies on one’s hard drive and select either to automatically reject all new cookies or to be asked each time one cookie is to be installed on the computer’s hard drive if it wants to discard or accept it.
Nevertheless, users / visitors should be aware that choosing to reject cookies will make it more difficult or impossible to use sections and services of the website.
